Fooly Cooly or FLCL

Second Review: Fooly Cooly or FLCL

So my friends, here we are again. Another review, another day. Okay, maybe its been a few weeks, but really, can you blame me? I have a life outside my reviewing . Anyway, FLCL is an anime series written by Yoji Enokido, directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and produced by the FLCL Production Committee, which included Gainax, Production I.G. and Starchild Records. FLCL follows Naota Nandaba, a twelve-year-old boy living in the fictional Japanese suburb of Madase, and his interactions with Haruko Haruhara, who arrives in the quiet suburb, drawn by the industrial town houses and the Medical Mechanica building. First off, it should be mentioned that this series is only six episodes and no, its not because this anime series sucks. Its because the creators got tired of creating episodes so they ended it at six apparently. Also to be mentioned, I'm not telling you what Medical Mechanica is. It would ruin the show for everyone. If you want to know, then what the series. Naota is an almost normal, but pretty quirky twelve-year-old. He's obsessed with looking mature and being nonchalant, but he has a portal as a brain and has aliens pop out of his forehead a lot through the series. Actually, this what usually causes all the chaos that ensues. he also admires his older brother a lot and thinks of him as being the definition of an "adult". As far as characters go, I really like him. Naota is relatable, but has his own "not-exactly-the-norm" issues. I also like Haruko. she is completely bat-shit insane, but really has a purpose behind all that insanity. Also she self-confident and really doesn't care what anyone thinks. As for the other characters they have a life of their own, even Takkun, who doesn't even appear in person for the entire series, has a little bit of a personality. All in all, I greatly enjoyed this nonsensical series and I highly recommend it. pinky, out.

P.S. Read the manga, too.

Twin Peaks Review

First Review : Twin Peaks

When starting a strange show reviewing blog, I think its safe to say you have to start with a show everyone will know(even if they haven't watched it) and will attract attention. Twin Peaks is the perfect show for that. Twin Peaks is an American TV drama created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. It follows an investigation headed by FBI agent Dale Cooper into the murder of home-coming queen Laura Palmer. The show first aired on April 8, 1990 and ended in June 10, 1991. Now, when I first started watching Twin Peaks I have to say it looked to me like your average murder mystery TV show. Then the log lady appeared and that idea was thrown out the window. She is just so strange and, believe me ladies and gentlemen, she just gets weirder throughout the first and second season. Also noted was the ever present demon, Bob. Yes, you read correctly, the demon's name is Bob and he wears flannel shirts and has long truck-driver grey hair. You know, I just realized that his name might be a nickname for his real name. (SPOILER!!!) He also possessed Laura's father and had him kill her. Not a nice dude. I liked the character Dale Cooper. He loved the apple pie and coffee served in the Double-R Diner in the small town. Actually, he's frequently heard saying "Damn, that's a good cup of coffee!" whenever he goes in there. He also has prophetic visions about a giant and a midget which help him along his not-so-merry way. Also I like how he knows practically everything that is going on in the town.(SPOILER!!) It made me sad to see him possessed by Bob, really sad. Another character to mention would be Leo. I have to say that he is the worst husband ever. He's demanding and beats poor Shelly until she is nothing more than bruises. (SPOILER!!) When he got paralyzed I honestly was happy that happened to him. The only redeeming feature about him is that he tried to stop Philip from kidnapping and killing Shelly because even if he is a complete donkey he still loves her. The last episode of the two-season series was probably my least favorite episode. It left untied strings to be tied and things just got acid-trip trippy by the end of it. I especially disliked the part where Dale Cooper is in the Black Lodge. All that light flashing really hurt my eyes. All in all, I really enjoy this series. It was bizarre and wonky, but engaging to the audience. The characters were relatable, if over-dramatic. I would give this show an A for quality and timelessness. Its a must-see that no one should miss. Pinky, out.

Note: If you want some background information before watching the series, watch the movie that came first (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me).

Twin Peaks and an intro

Okay, I am going to be completely honest with everyone who is reading this blog. I don't do blogs, I read them. Usually. The topic of Twin Peaks and all shows strange are an exception. they're just so weird and bizarre that I had to have a blog dedicated to them. So, here is my blog. All that will be posted will be about weird/strange shows from cartoons and anime to live-action. I'll put links to their trailers or intros and what I thought about them when I watched them. I also wouldn't mind having suggestions on what I should watch next. Please avoid suggesting bloody shows, though. I hate watching gore-filled shows, they make me queasy. Other than that, I'm cool with whatever you send my way. Hope to hear from someone. Pinky, out.
